On September 14, 2013 a group of 19 bike riders and 2 support vehicles and drivers met at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Armour to participate in the 16th annual Bike For Life. We logged 105 miles to raise money and awareness for the UltraSound ministry at the Alpha Center in Sioux Falls SD. Our mission is “saving babies one mile at a time”!
The day was overcast, cool and misty at times, with a strong SSE wind to contend with. After a word of prayer lead by Pastor Nour via phone from St Louis, we were on our way! We had a breakfast stop at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston, lunch at St. Paul Lutheran church in Freeman and a snack break at First English Lutheran Church in Parker. These breaks are a time for rest, fellowship and great food! We thank the Lord for all the people who helped to prepare the food for us and gave us a place to rest before continuing on our way!
The wind took its toll on several riders and they used the support vehicle services. We can’t thank the people who took the day to drive for us enough! Without their support this ride wouldn’t be possible! The group riding from Brookings to Sioux Falls struggled with the wind too and they were not able to make the entire trip. They were forced to turn around and go back to Brookings. We truly appreciate their effort and pray for better weather next year!
We changed our route a little this year to avoid some of the high traffic leading into Sioux Falls. We traveled directly from Parker to Sioux Falls and skipped the stop in Tea then traveled down 57th street to the bike trail. This seemed to be a good decision and we plan to continue with this route in the future.
We arrived at the Alpha Center at 5:30pm to lots of cheers and horn honking! After a prayer of thanksgiving for our safe travel The Alpha Center provided all the bikers and their families with a delicious meal. It was great to relax a little and visit before we all headed back to our homes.
This day wouldn’t be possible without a lot of help! We would like to thank everyone who prayed for our safe travel! A special thanks to all the bike riders for their dedication, Krull’s Market for donating water, Gatorade and snacks to have along the way, the churches that provided us with meals and snacks and the individuals that drove and provided the support vehicles.
We thank God for our safe travel and all the support for the Alpha Centers Ultrasound ministry! It is never too late to donate towards this worthy cause.
